Bug description:
    This is related to this bug I reported here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1307623

    I tried the upstream kernel from drm-intel-nightly (2014-04-17-trusty) in
order to investigate the bug above. It actually solved the external monitor
resolution issue, however I had another even more critical issue: my laptop
display turns blank completely. It remains blank even when I boot it without
any external monitor.

System environment:
-- chipset: intel i7-4600U (HD-4400)
-- system architecture: 64-bit
-- kernel: from upstream mainline kernel at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/2014-04-17-trusty/
-- Linux distribution: Ubuntu 14.04
-- xserver: 1.15.1
-- xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1
-- Machine or mobo model: Lenovo X1 Carbon 2014 (20A7CTO1WW)
-- Display connector: DisplayPort

Reproducing steps:
* install upstream kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/2014-04-17-trusty/
* boot with this kernel
