Currently the system with my latest kernel doesn't seem to support suspend, so
I can't do this particular test.  As a poor substitute I tried using the
"switch off screen" timer in my power settings, and while that turns off video,
the backlight is clearly still on.  

On a slightly related issue, I've never been able to get the main power-off to
work using the 64 bit kernels.  On my 32 bit version I had it working with some
posted patches, but I haven't yet tried applying those patches to the new 3.15
based code.
