intel_reg_dumper output from ubuntu 13.10 with nomodeset

Then I booted the laptop with the same Ubuntu 13.10 USB stick, adding the
nomodeset kernel option. The colours are good and the display is sharp.

The intel_reg_dumper output is quite different. I am not familiar with the i915
driver - perhaps there is a silver bullet in there.
