You hit 'e', move to the line that starts with "linux", and add the parameters
to the end. Then you hit ctrl-x or F10 to boot, as instructed at the bottom of
the screen.

As I said, this way the changes won't be saved permanently to /etc/default/grub
or anywhere in /boot, and will only be effective for this one boot.
