It's not related to the GUI. I stopped lightdm service.
results:
- fn + brightness down/up keys were not working
- brightness was on max when attaching or removing power cord from laptop..
 (I had to use echo $val > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness for
changing brightness down)
