Thank you very much for the link. I will be able to check whether its working
on  a E7240 tomorrow (my docking station is at work). 

Anyway, I was able to install this upgrade which is a big step forward for me.

I've had some trouble upgrading to the 2.99.912 userspaces as the link from the
manual was not working. I have used this link instead: 
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/6171526
