It's not the only pathological renderer! I still think something is subpar and
anomalous about the behavior on your machine, but this bug has gone on long
enough...

For reference, can you please run

x11perf -aa10text -aa24text -rgb10text -rgb24text

under the various compositor guises (TearFree, vsync, vsync+TearFree, etc).

For reference on my baby ivb, with tear-free enabled and bare X I get:

Sync time adjustment is 0.0324 msecs.
