I've reinstalled stock drivers (Ubuntu 13.10) using

apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all

Xorg.0.log now shows

SNA compiled: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.904-0ubuntu2.1 (Robert Hooker
<sarvatt at ubuntu.com>)

The issue persists.

On the other hand, the "stable" version of i-v-o, ecc20fb, still works without
fail on the stock drivers.
