Unfortunately I am using the Gentoo distibution that provides only 3.14.14 or
3.16.5 tainted versions of the kernel in the streamline (amd64).

So let me try some intermediate and not-tainted versions from kernel.org... do
you have any suggestion of some version numbers that would be the best as first
to try for the i915 driver ?
