error state, Xorg logs, kernel log

I'm new to Linux & didn't really understand the past bugs, so sorry if this is
a duplicate.

Ubuntu Trusty 32-bit on a Thinkpad x61s (kernel 3.13.0-44 generic).
Screen goes completely black at times (no backlight even) and stays that way.
Switching to tty1 doesn't help.
This usually can be re-created by starting certain youtube videos
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eqryolAPow).
Closing the lid (going to suspend) then reopening will result in the screen
turning on again but without window decorators/toolbars/dock.
Was using Precise for a year or so without any video issues at all on this
machine.

SSH'ed in while screen blanked and got the following logs (attached), can get
other ones if needed.
kern.log
Xorg.0.log & old
i915_error_state

Thank you for your time and help, I really appreciate it.
-Sanjay
