Sorry. I have to correct: video works nicely with totem both with 2.99.910 and
2.99.917.git The described behaviour only occurs with vlc both with 2.99.910
and 2.99.917 git. So I don't know whether vlc worked with any driver version.

Hrm. Still, there is something wonky going on. Some jpg files also display
completely black with eye of gnome (eog). While they load normally in firefox
or other image viewers (mirage).
