--- Comment #52 from Chris <cpollock at embarqmail.com> ---
I'm running kernel 4.0.0-040000rc4-generic #201503152135 SMP Mon Mar 16
01:36:37 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux and had booted into it at
7:49pm 17 March 2015. This morning, 19 March 2015, at approximately 7am my
monitor was showing only a black screen with a movable mouse cursor. I tried
several times to CTRL>ALT>F1 to drop to a login terminal to no avail. After
trying this several times I just tried to blindly login by entering my login
and password then waiting a bit and entering sudo reboot and password. Looking
up at the monitor about 7:33 or so I noticed the login was now present so I
logged in, and ran sudo reboot. The system rebooted normally. Looking through
my syslog during the time between I left the system on the 18th and the time I
had to reboot this morning I saw this:

Mar 19 07:34:14 localhost kernel: [128723.820044] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed
[i915]] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle

which is approximately 2 minutes prior to the time I gave the reboot command to
the system.

I'll be more than happy to attach any other information needed if someone would
just tell me what is needed. It seems to me that no matter what kernel I run
this problem seems to keep popping up.
