The "cleaned up patch" I'm using

OK, I applied the patch manually the best I could, skipping the parts that
seemed related to dithering. There are still parts related to bit-banging
which I'm not sure are important, but in any case I'm using this right now
(applied on top of 4.1.0-rc2) and it indeed seems to be working just fine (very
limited testing, tho: just a few minutes of use so far, with about 10
sleep/restore with and without the "dock").

I can again use my 1600x1200 external display with my X30, Yay!

The XRandr code still suffers from the fact that the VGA1 output can only use
CRTC 0, but that CRTC is used by default for LVDS1, so I need to "xrandr
--output LVDS1 --crtc 1" before I can really use the VGA output, but this is an
unrelated problem (that is also very long standing, and is very minor in
comparison).

So, thank you very much. I hope this gets into the mainline kernel soon(ish),
so I don't have to keep patching it locally.
