Interesting I blacklisted the amdgpu module and now the intel driver works.

Has to be some bad interaction.

vlc using Xvideo output still has the overlay always on top of everything and
it do not scale but at least X starts.

Now having a discrete gfx card in a i7 6700k system is probably going to be
quite common so I guess we need to find out where things goes wrong to avoid
people having to blacklist drivers.
