panel_type_modparam was a link and was trying to resolve it in my browser!
Anyway I now have the kernel compiled. Not entirely sure what to do with:
"[PATCH] drm/i915/hack: Abuse i915.vbt_sdvo_panel_type also for  LVDS/eDP/DSI"
or "i915.vbt_sdvo_panel_type=0"
