I have this:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf 

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "Intel Graphics"
        Driver      "intel"

About the video performance... Have you ever seen a Windows computer without
video driver? Using only the default VGA driver? Something like that: Video is
quite slow, sometimes you can see how things are drawn on the screen, tearing
is *very* noticeable, and even sometimes some areas on the screen does not get
upgraded until you pass the mouse cursor over them. But at least I have run 10
days without a "Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle" error.
