So I was digging around after determining i915 was seeing ports that aren't
physically there and found 'video=' so I set 'video=HDMI-A-3:d' which fixed the
problem since its no longer trying to stomp it.

I'm guessing the problem is that the i915 driver isn't properly querying VBT
for which ports are actually there, eg EFP1,EFP2,EFP3, since there is no
indication as far as I can see of any HDMI-A-3 in my VBT.
