I'm also affected by this:

Debian Jessie, kernel 3.16, xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.99.917+git20160522-1~bpo8+1, Haswell Refresh CPU/IGP, with external display
connected through VGA.


On my system, tearfree works just fine, but after some time, maybe some
suspending actions, it breaks, and I get the error my my Xorg log
