Installing the 4.8.0-rc3 (fa8410b355251fd30341662a40ac6b22d3e38468) amd64
-generic packages from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc3/
does not work.

Compiling my own copy of 4.8.0-rc3 (fa8410b355251fd30341662a40ac6b22d3e38468)
works fine.

Ugh...
