I experimented with latencies by changing the values defined inside
vlv_setup_wm_latency().  Here's my patch (which also includes your DDL=0
change):

In this patch, I bumped up all of the values to 45us so that the watermarks are
very close to the maximum.  In theory, we should be pretty busy trying to keep
the FIFO close to being full.  Yet, I was still able to reproduce the problem.
