I spoke too soon: I'm still seeing full-screen flickering with
4.8.0-17-generic, just not as frequently as before. I'll try reverting the
equivalent commit to 05a76d3d6ad1ee9f9814f88949cc9305fc165460 from the mainline
kernel to see if that stops it.
