No, no the patch actually removes those 20 or so lines in intel_opregion.c that
were added in 4.7.5 but not present in 4.7.4. I can confirm that this fix does
work, and is perfectly safe because the lines deleted were static functions
that remained unused outside of that file. I successfully compiled and
installed my patched 4.7.5 kernel, and there are no artifacts or display issues
:D
I created a git repository with the patched kernel specifically for use with a
laptop with an Intel Broadwell U series processor. Simply install the .deb
files in my git repository I generated from compiling the patched kernel and
you should be running the latest and greatest stable kernel without issue!

Hope this helps anyone experiencing graphics issues with the v4.7.5!
I've been running my custom kernel for several days now and everything is
working very well. I've also noticed an improvement in battery life with the
newer kernel over the stock v4.4.x kernel provided in Ubuntu by default.
