It doesn't work in all cases,
I have P10S-M WS (C236 chipset) and KBL CPU and before that SKL CPU on the same
board,
in both cases HBR audio (dts-hd passthrough) in linux kernel is broken.

What is common with Apollo Lake platform here is the lack of native HDMI output
and HDMI2.0 port is wired up to DisplayPort via some convertor chip. The
HBR-audio also doesn't work in case when DisplayPort output is used with
external DP->HDMI cable
(it's not HW issue as both ways work as expected with Win10).
