I haven't had the time to dig into this, I'm hoping someone else will, but I
wouldn't be surprised if the problem has to do with some confusion arising from
EDID information being fetched from an HDMI display (or A/V receiver) but the
driver seeing a DP connector. There might be something we're not taking into
account there.
