On kernel 4.13rc4 the problem disappeared(possibly earlier).

To do the upgrade on Ubuntu, run:

mkdir kernel_upgrade_4_13_rc4
cd kernel_upgrade_4_13_rc4
wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.13-rc4/linux-headers-4.13.0-041300rc4_4.13.0-041300rc4.201708062231_all.deb
wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.13-rc4/linux-headers-4.13.0-041300rc4-generic_4.13.0-041300rc4.201708062231_amd64.deb
wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.13-rc4/linux-image-4.13.0-041300rc4-generic_4.13.0-041300rc4.201708062231_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
reboot
