The error code on GPIO is not -517 which means that the GPIO driver may not be
loaded and the i915 driver tries to access GPIO which is not available. In your
kernel config you should have 

CONFIG_PINCTRL_GEMINILAKE=y

Could you check this and maybe share your kernel config for comparison?
