output of /sys/class/drm/card0/error
after a profile update i had to rebuild my system with gcc 6.4 (Gentoo Hardened
6.4.0 p1.1)
after recompiling the complete system i managed to upgraded to kernel 4.14.x
without any gpu-freezes!
maybe the new hardened profile or gcc 6.4 solved the freezes.
since then i had several atomic errors, but no gpu hang!
however, today i had another GPU hang, but unlike the freezes before now
resetting gpu worked and i was able to continue working without any issues.
the application that caused the GPU hang was avidemux3:
https://github.com/mean00/avidemux2.git (./bootStrap.bash --enable-qt4)
the problem may be related to VAAPI as i used avidemux with VAAPI enabled to
cut a x265/HEVC video (fast forward searching in video: continuously PageUp-key
pressed down)
dmesg:
[317920.925145] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 9:2:0xa8dfbffd, in avidemux3_qt4 [1739],
reason: Hang on vcs0, action: reset
[317920.925148] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx
stack, including userspace.
[317920.925148] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org
against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[317920.925149] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right
component if it's not a kernel issue.
[317920.925150] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so
please always attach it.
[317920.925151] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error

[317920.928295] [drm] RC6 on
crash dump is attached (binary data removed)
