Yeah, but one would expect that the same physical connector should present
himself under same ip/name every time, right?

Perhaps it is a HW issue. I tried to looks this up in the intel mst/drm mst
code yesterday, but as I'm completely unfamiliar with the code it takes me ages
to figure out what's what (although the code is written nicely). I will
continue to dig it next weekend.
