Another twist with the viewsonic - sometimes it doesn't come back from going
blank, but goes into powersave mode instead.   The left-hand AOC is working
fine at this point.  Running xrandr then shows the ViewSonic display as:

DP-3-8 disconnected 3840x2160+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
0mm x 0mm

... but about half the time, the act of running xrandr itself, then makes the 
ViewSonic wake up again - the AOC flickers briefly, and the ViewSonic powers
back up.  I'll add another attachment with the kernel messages when this
happens, and the xrandr output.
