I did some brief tests with a Thunderbolt 3 -> HDMI adapter I lent from a
friend, and these tests indicate that the problem *only* arises with the HDMI
port on the laptop. If I use HDMI through the Thunderbolt port, there seems to
be no problem.

(Btw, wouldn't the tag "display/HDMI" be more accurate than "display/DP"?)
