ok, I just tested the patched kernel and it works fine, without flickering.
That's cool.

Regarding the video card in use, I'm not 100% sure of which one Mint is
currently using (NVidia or Intel).
The drivers manager says I have a NVIDIA GM108M (in use with an open-source
driver) + an unknown card. So I guess I'm using NVIDIA.
