I tried the same experiment with a  Lenovo x260 + Lenovo dock. There was no
interrupt (short or long pulse) when I turned off the monitor connected to the
dock. The display comes up fine after I turn it on.

But, with Jiri's configuration, the dock seems to send a long pulse indicating
a dock unplug. Therefore, the connectors get destroyed. I don't think the
kernel is doing anything wrong here. We'll need more debug information to
confirm that the userspace isn't able to deal with new connectors.
