ACK.  Another occurrence this morning didn't coincide with these messages. 
Also no messages in Xorg log.

The kernel is currently booted with drm.debug=0xe log_buf_len=1M and was built
from drm-tip on 24th April (4.11.0-rc8).  The issue definitely seems less
frequent and severe than previously, but is still occurring fairly regularly.

Some other variables which might be at play here.  I sometimes use:

xset dpms force standby

and I also sometimes change the monitor brightness levels using ddccontrol

Probably unrelated, but I thought I should mention it...
