The bug seems to be still present in 4.16 (tested on Asus T100HA).

Also, there's workaround for non-modular kernels with statically compiled
modules, known workarounds are based on delayed loading of i915, which cannot
be used in case of non-modular kernel. Embedded systems using non-modular
kernels are therefore quite screwed on affected hardware (the only way to
support new HW is to temporarily enable kernel module loading and add kmod to
userspace until this issue is fixed). So please also consider increasing
priority of this issue or introducing a workaround for non-modular kernels.
