Slight correction - my first attempt to boot with discrete graphics enabled was
foiled by there being a second bios setting that tries to autoset the graphics
cards, despite me having just manually set it.  REALLY forcing discrete
graphics off got me back to the exact same "hang, doesn't write to syslog, but
I could take a photo of it" problem as started this thread.  Same kernel dump
about ironlake and drm.
