I allow myself to reopen the bug, since I installed (k)ubuntu 18.04 yesterday
and the behaviour is identically unchanged, with a normally unusable full HD
screen.

Sorry, I don't understand that 'drm-tip'. I would still like to helpout, and
get this problem solved. What do I have to do?
