If I understood your code correctly, I think the following scenario is
possible: on inactivity, laptop dims screen (backlight level 0) after e.g. 5
minutes and automatically hibernates after 15 minutes. After resuming from S4,
the backlight wouldn't come up.

I will test this tomorrow and let you know.
