Can you try the most recent drm-tip kernel? Yesterday I tried to boot from
Ubuntu Live CD, the 4.15 kernel which is included obviously didn't work(blank
screen as mentioned), however once I've substituted that kernel to 4.20.0-rc7,
I could see the kernel boot messages and modesetting worked.
