The logs don't indicate that we'd get any brightness up changes. We get the
decreasing changes until:

[  312.730098] [drm:intel_backlight_device_update_status [i915]] updating
intel_backlight, brightness=1/7500

but not back up.

Please try using the /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness interface
directly. Echo values between 0 and $(cat max_brightness) to it, and see if the
backlight works that way.
