Clint,

first up, sorry for the hassle regarding OUTPUT_UNKNOWN and OUTPUT_DDI with
more current kernels in mind.

I applied your latest patch to 4.17.4 sources (slight conflict fixups required,
see [1] for the result) and put the DRM_ERROR() back in which prints the
current connector type ([2]). On 4.17, the check for _UNKNOWN or _DDI even
doesn't seem to be needed anymore, the debug print will always report connector
type 64, even directly after boot/hwinit/i915 load. Long story short, the patch
still works well.

Test debs based on 4.17.4 at [3].

Will keep the latest 4.15 patches/branches around though, as they eventually
are candidates for a possible "Ubuntu stable kernel" inclusion when your fix is
merged into some linux/drm kernel tree.
