tested:

- last ubuntu drm-tip (as of June 3rd):
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-tip/current/
- suggested patch on comment #12 on this thread (on 4.17 rc3+ kernel I already
had the source)

Both tests were unsuccessful to fix the bug (unlike the workaround that makes
the time-out disappear).
