Then it would probably be wise to merge it into the mainline kernel, so that
4.17 will have it.

Can you please also enable it for cases where a DisplayPort to HDMI or DVI-D to
HDMI adapter is being used?  Not all devices have native HDMI outputs, but have
DisplayPort or DVI-D outputs instead, which can also be connected to HDMI
inputs via simple passive adapters.
