I'll test these workarounds over the next couple days. So far the `disable
12bpc` has worked good here - no problems. I also modified the patch a little
so you can select what you want the default setting to be in menuconfig (I
prefer that over using custom grub commands).

Is either of these workarounds more preferable over the other? Any potential
negative impacts or drawbacks each may have?
