I've just tested this, same setup as in comment #28. It worked the same as the
patch in comment #25. I've created a video after applying patch #24. Uploaded
on Google Drive.

You can see the "blanking" behaviour I described in comment #28 at around
00:00:15. I recorded the video in a dark room with high ISO, so you can see the
backlight behaviour more clearly. As you can see, the screen never turns off.

fastboot=0 and patch #24:

The screen completely turns off and on, including backlight.

Patch #25 behaves the same as patch #24. If you have further ideas, how to fix
the blanking, I'm happy to try out more patches, as I have the testing
environment setup and working.
