Suspending trick sounds really suspicious. Unfortunately I'm not able to
reproduce this issue with my Dell docking station, I will probably have to
order exactly same as here. However there is one issue that might be related
which I'm currently investigating.

Can you try switching to Wayland to check that it helps? Also what happens if
you boot with runlevel 3?
