Please double check that you can do something this and it works:

# xrandr --output DSI-1 --off
# sleep 5
# xrandr --output DSI-1 --auto

So is it really only the lid close/reopen that fails?

Please attach full dmesg with drm.debug=14 running a recent kernel version,
reproducing the problem.
