Given that we did not get answers from the reporters, we are closing this bug.

I personally can attest that there used to be distorsions (white noise added to
the signal) when starting to route audio over HDMI but it would disappear after
a couple of seconds. I however cannot reproduce the problem anymore on 4.18.

Please open a new bug if you encounter something similar.
