Hmm. Maybe it's as machine-specific thing? Or maybe it's important that there's
the DP-hub inbetween?

Nope, sorry. For me it usually starts showing up as soon as I log in, sometimes
before, sometimes a little later. But it's not even that I need to play video
or do something else. I'm on Fedora but still run X (not wayland) with gnome
shell, but that's it...
