I have got news :
I downgraded my BIOS from 303 to 300 by following a hint that adviced to type  
   'risky' on the window that ttells you the bios file is 'too old'.
It reflashes the BIOS file 300.
And wonderful, the lid close ,sleep and wake work really well.
The two BIOS files are downloadable on the ASUS website as per this link:

I do not know how to compare the two files, so that I cannot say what has
changed.

I have not used the 300 BIOS long enough to say if there is any performance
loss.
