I actually just provided a comment for this issue (Nov 11th). Yes, I am still
experiencing an issue which prevents me from using the Intel driver with recent
kernels.

The absence of a boot-time setting (module paramenter to i915) makes the bpc
setting  - which requires logging into X in order to put into effect - rather
hard to achieve when a working display is not available.

Please read the comments I have provided, as they are quite descriptive wrt.
explaining the bug and subsequent feature request in full. The functionality
for setting the bpc has already been implemented, and surely it would be
possible to have a parameter to the kernel module directly which bypass xrandr.
